Years in private practice and in a community health center taught me that most of health happens between visits, at home.

As Medical Director over a large Medicaid population at a Fortune 10 health plan, the work was building systems that connected people to high-quality care when and where they needed it. In organized medicine — as president of the Lexington Medical Society and on the county board of health — I saw the same question from the community side. Both pointed to the same place: the home, and the conditions people live with long before anyone reaches a clinic.

As Chief Medical Officer of a Y Combinator–backed health company, I saw what predictive analytics could do when it reached someone in time. Later, as a medical director at a technology company serving state health plans across the country, I worked the same question at scale — analytics, primary care redesign, and getting the right care to the people who needed it. Both taught me how technology can put the right guidance in a family’s hands.

In 2024, my father had an unexpected five-day hospital stay. The hospital prepared him to leave. Nobody prepared our family for what came next. That gap is why I started Caregiving Is Healthcare.
Read what happened, in my own words →Caregiving Is Healthcare is the physician-led education platform I founded to help families prepare for aging, recovery and sudden changes at home. ReadyRoom, its first product, is in development: a way for a family to move from discharge instructions and uncertainty toward a practical plan for the first days home.
The goal was never only a longer life. It’s more years of walks, family, travel, and the moments that make us feel most like ourselves. The landscapes here are my own photographs.

Tell me who will be in it, roughly how many, and what you want them doing differently on Monday. I will come back with a format and a proposal.
